UN to lead investigation into deaths of Bangladeshi protesters

The United Nations will oversee the investigation into the deaths of anti-government protesters in Bangladesh, according to the office of Muhammad Yunus, the head of the country's interim government.

According to Report, the announcement follows a telephone conversation between Yunus and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk.

During the call, Türk informed Yunus that a team of experts from his office will soon visit Bangladesh to conduct an inquiry into the fatalities among demonstrators.

Yunus emphasized that upholding human rights will be the primary focus of his administration, with the protection of every citizen as a top priority.

The interim leader also sought Turk's assistance in rebuilding the country.
