Members of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) have left their base in the Timbuktu region in the central part of the country, Report informs referring to TASS.
During the ceremony, the head of MINUSMA, Anton Anchev, handed over the “keys” to the base to the governor of the Timbuktu region, Bakun Kante, and the UN flag was also lowered.
Earlier, AFP reported the termination of MINUSMA’s powers in the country. On June 30, at the request of the government of Mali, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to end the peacekeeping mission in this African country. The withdrawal of units must be completed by December 31, 2023.
