UN General Assembly chief speaks about his visit to Azerbaijan

Volkan Bozkir, the first Turkish diplomat, who became the President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, has completed his term.

According to Report's local bureau, Bozkir told reporters that the UN General Assembly made successful decisions over the past year despite the pandemic.

He said he made it possible to hold face-to-face meetings instead of meetings via the Internet. He said he thought a personal meeting was crucial in diplomacy in achieving the results which could not be achieved through the Internet.

Bozkir added that it was a priority task to return to normal work during his chairmanship at the 75th session for the UN headquarters in New York. He stressed that representatives of 67 countries have held over 100 direct meetings and adopted 220 resolutions throughout this period and thanked all countries that joined them and made their contribution despite the complex situation with the pandemic that existed over the previous period.

Bozkir said that during his stay in position, he held serious reforms in most UN spheres. He noted that they carried out considerable work to prepare the UN for emergencies and created the system of e-voting.

The diplomat stressed the importance of the UN's standing shoulder-to-shoulder with those needy in Syria and Myanmar. He said currently, more than 200,000 UN representatives work worldwide, risking their lives.

Bozkir also spoke about his visits to Azerbaijan, Qatar, Turkey, Caribbean countries, Russia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, where people were happy to see the flag of the UN, the only symbol of trust to people in any part of the world.

On September 21, Bozkir will pass his powers to the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
