UN chief says humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Ethiopia

A million people in Ethiopia are in need of food, water, shelter, and healthcare services.

Report informs, citing RIA Novosti, that according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who spoke at the session of the UN General Assembly, the humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding because over 400,000 people are already living in faminelike conditions. Another 1.8 million people are on the brink of famine.

He added that over 2 million people were obliged to flee their homes and millions of other people need urgent humanitarian aid, including food, water, shelter, and healthcare services. He added that the refugee camps in Ethiopia are destroyed, hospitals and clinics were attacked and robbed, there is no electricity and communication.

The UN chief also expressed deep concern about the dreadful cases of sexual and gender violence, strongly condemning such monstrous acts.
