Ukrainian MP calls destruction of Kakhovka Dam ecological genocide

The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in Kherson is an act of ecological genocide committed against our country, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine from the ruling "Servants of the People" party, Pavlo Pavlish, told Report.

According to him, this is a serious problem not only for Ukraine but for the world: “After the water receded, numerous ruins and animal corpses are discovered. The Russians did nothing to evacuate people and animals. We do not have exact information about the number of dead, but if we count those who could not be contacted on the left bank of the Dnipro, the death toll could be as high as 1,000. We are sure that the death toll is high because people are not allowed to leave the area and evacuation work is not carried out.”

MP Pavlish noted that in order to reduce the scale of the tragedy even a little, the epidemiological situation should be controlled and laboratory analysis should be carried out: “Because the temperature reaches 37 C in Kherson. This causes more decomposition of the corpses, their mixing in air and water. Since the rivers flow into the Black Sea, this ecological situation poses a threat not only to Ukraine. Therefore, when it comes to international aid, the epidemiological situation must be constantly checked and analyzed in order to save more people and animals. 25 people died on the right bank of the Dnipro, two of them children. Another 32 people, including 2 children, are considered missing. There is no official information about the left bank of the river because the Russian side does not allow international organizations to enter the area and thereby tries to cover up its crimes.”
