Ukraine demanding legal review into Russia's UNSC membership

Ukraine is demanding a thorough legal review into Russia's membership of the UNSC, Report informs, citing UNIAN that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told an online briefing.

“To put it mildly, under dubious circumstances Russia found itself in the chair of a permanent member of the UN Security Council. For almost 30 years, they turned a blind eye to this issue and pretended that nothing has had happened. Although we had previously put relevant questions to the UN Secretariat, how they allowed it, how all that could happen, our requests were ignored. They patted us on the back and said, well, you understand everything... So, we don’t understand anything anymore, and we raise the question of a thorough, impartial, legal analysis of it and on what grounds the Russian Federation remains a permanent member of the UN Security Council," Kuleba stressed.

"We are confident that when this legal analysis is carried out, it will turn out that, let's not be afraid of this word, Russia is illegitimate in the UN Security Council. Now everything depends on the integrity of the lawyers of the UN Secretariat and the readiness to fully investigate this issue," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
