Two dead, 80 injured in stampede ahead of football match in Iraq

At least two people have been killed and 80 others have received injuries of various severity in a stadium stampede.

Report informs, citing local media, that the incident happened before the Persian Gulf Cup match between Iraq and Oman.

Several thousand people tried to get into stadium to watch the match, but the arena was only open to those who had tickets. It led to stampede. The match has been rescheduled.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani flew to Basra and held an emergency meeting with a group of ministers and the governor of the region.
