Türkiye intends to promote positive course in working with new UK PM

Türkiye intends to work with the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his government on all issues of the bilateral agenda and promote a positive course, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said upon his return from Germany, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.

He emphasized that relations between Türkiye and the UK “have extremely deep historical roots.”

"While we have been in power, we have worked with both Labor and Conservative prime ministers. The main thing is to work in accordance with the common interests of the two countries. We will continue to develop relations with our ally England in all areas. On our agenda there are important issues. We intend to promote a positive course in our relations and resolve existing issues,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan noted that he had not yet had time to congratulate Starmer on his victory, but would do so in the near future.

“The Labor Party has not been able to achieve results over the past 14 years. But as a result of these elections, they received 411 parliamentary seats. The party did not have such successes even under Tony Blair,” the Turkish leader added.

Labor leader Keir Starmer formed a new government of the UK following the parliamentary elections held in the kingdom on July 4.
