The traditional New Year's event at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin will not take place due to a lack of funding, Benedikt Alder, director of the organizing company Berlin feiert Silvester (BfS) GmbH, said in a statement, Report informs via the DPA News Agency.
"There will be no event like the ones we've always held at the Brandenburg Gate over the past decades," he said.
Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner noted that the authorities will no longer finance the show.
"Taxpayers are not obligated to fund such events — especially under tight budget conditions," the mayor said.
The traditional New Year's event in central Berlin typically featured numerous performers, and a fireworks display at midnight.
