UN: Medical masks and gloves are threat to nature

The statement of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) shows that in the context of a new coronavirus pandemic, the use of necessary personal protective equipment affects the level of environmental pollution, Report informs.

According to the lecture, protective masks, gloves, disinfectants, and food packaging pollute the streets, beaches, and the world oceans.

The document emphasizes that plastic pollution was already one of the most severe threats to the planet before the pandemic. In this case, the sharp increase in the consumption of some products aggravates the situation.

Thus, the report also notes that greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 5% due to self-isolation and the shutdown of several facilities around the world.
