Tajikistan may increase electricity exports to Afghanistan

Tajikistan may increase sales of electricity to Afghanistan. In 2024, the figure may increase by 17% compared to last year, the chairman of the state energy holding Barki Tojik, Mahmadumar Asozoda, said at a press conference, Report informs referring to Tajik media.

“Indeed, a contract for the supply of electricity has been concluded between Barki Tojik and the Breshna company (Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the national energy company of Afghanistan),” he said.

In 2024, the estimated supply of electricity to Afghanistan will be 1.9 billion kWh.

Asozoda clarified that Tajikistan as a whole last year exported electricity in the amount of 2.677 billion kWh, which is 124.2 million more than in 2022.

In 2023, Tajikistan supplied 1.6 billion kWh of electricity to neighboring Afghanistan.
