Szijjártó says EU will increase military aid fund for Kyiv

The European Union has decided to increase the European Peace Fund to 5 billion euros to provide military assistance to Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, said within the framework of the EU ministerial in Brussels.

He noted that the meeting participants made a final decision to increase the so-called European Peace Fund to 5 billion euros, from which EU countries can pay for arms supplies to Ukraine.

Hungary abstained from the decision and will not have any political or financial obligations in connection with the fund.

"This means that we will have to pay the required 50 million euros, but we ourselves will be able to decide what we want to do with it," the minister said.

He explained that Hungary's contribution to this fund could be used, in particular, to strengthening stability and security in the Western Balkans region.
