Syria, Türkiye agree on concept of normalizing ties

Syria, Türkiye and Iran agreed on the concept of a "road map" presented by Russia to normalize relations between Ankara and Damascus, Alexander Lavrentyev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Syria, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"All parties generally agreed with the concept of a road map to advance the process of normalizing relations and expressed their views and proposals. Now they need to be systematized and coordinated," he said.

According to him, this process will take some time.

"The most important thing is that it is moving forward, this is a progressive process. It cannot be especially delayed, everyone agreed with this," Lavrentyev added.

Following the meeting in Moscow on May 10, the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Syria and Iran ordered to work on a draft road map, and deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Syria and Iran met in Astana on June 20 to discuss this issue.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously named the priority topics of the roadmap. Among them is the solution of the problem of restoring control of the Syrian government throughout the country, ensuring the security of the Syrian-Turkish border, eliminating the possibility of cross-border attacks and terrorist infiltration.
