Sweden reveals expenses for royal family for first time

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife Queen Silvia received 8 million crowns ($850,000) from the treasury last year, Report informs citing TASS.

This is the first time that Sweden has disclosed the amount of support for individual members of the royal family, to whom the state allocates 144.9 million crowns ($16 million) annually.

Half of this amount goes to the upkeep of the palaces, the rest goes to the monarchs and their immediate family, for each of which there is a limit of 13.6 million crowns ($1.45 million). The family of Crown Princess Victoria received 4.5 million crowns ($480,000), the family of Prince Philip - 1.1 million crowns ($120,000), and the family of the youngest Princess Madeleine received nothing at all.

In addition to the maintenance funds, the monarchs and their children have their own fortune, the size of which isn’t disclosed. The purchase of many things for private use, such as cars, boats, real estate, is paid by them from personal funds.
