In a major crackdown on corruption in sports, Spanish police have dismantled a criminal organization allegedly involved in match-fixing within the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Report informs via BNN that the operation, which witnessed the arrest of 17 individuals in Melilla and Granada, including officials and players from a third-division Melilla football team, Huracán Melilla, was carried out in collaboration with LaLiga and Europol.
The suspects face charges of involvement in a criminal organization, sports-related corruption among private parties, fraud, money laundering, and document forgery. The operation was initiated in response to multiple alerts received in February from different online betting houses about specific football match results placed from Melilla.
