Slovakian president meets Fico for first time since assassination attempt

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has held his first official meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico since the assassination attempt on him on May 15, Report informs referring to TASR news agency.

"This is the first official meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico since the assassination attempt on him in May," the agency quoted the president as saying. "The attack on the head of government was an attack on democracy in Slovakia."

Pellegrini, Fico and acting speaker of the Slovak National Council (parliament) Peter Ziga will sign a joint statement on the republic's foreign policy on September 1.

The document will declare a unified approach of different branches of government to solving international problems.

"We will clearly declare where (in which international organizations and associations - ed.) Slovakia's place is, what foreign policy we want to implement. We will demonstrate unity in approach, so that there is no doubt about it," Pellegrini said.
