Japan’s PM may visit Iran with a mediation mission

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may visit Iran in June with a possible mediation mission to normalize relations between Washington and Tehran.

Report informs citing TASS that the final decision on this trip will be made following the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to Japan on May 25-29.

The issue on the possible trip of the Prime Minister to Tehran can be particularly discussed during the conversation to be held today in Tokyo between Shinzo Abe and the assistant to the US President for National Security John Bolton.

Earlier, on May 16, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks in Tokyo with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The Japanese Prime Minister intends to use his good relations with both Washington and Tehran for a possible mediation mission.

Last time the head of the Japanese government visited Iran in 1978.
