President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has advocated for the creation of integrated logistics centers, reduction of transit costs, unification of freight regulations, and the formation of a single transport information system within the CIS, Report's correspondent in Turkmenistan informs referring to Mirziyoyev's statement at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
Mirziyoyev also supported the Turkmen initiative to declare 2029 as the Year of Transport Connectivity of the Commonwealth.
In his speech, the president of Uzbekistan emphasized the need to strengthen trust and achieve practical results in the CIS amid global economic changes and rising international tensions. According to Mirziyoyev, economic integration and industrial cooperation remain essential conditions for sustainable development. To elevate trade and investment partnerships to a new level, he called for a gradual transition from simple commodity trade to the joint creation of value-added chains.
Among priority tasks, the head of state highlighted eliminating technical barriers to trade, mutual recognition of conformity certificates, and expanding access to public procurement. He also noted the necessity of agreeing on an accord to expand mutual access to agricultural public procurement markets and a cooperation program in food security.
To increase market predictability, Mirziyoyev proposed introducing an advance notification and consultation mechanism prior to imposing restrictions on food and fertilizer exports. Additionally, he stressed the importance of expanding mutual investments and promptly agreeing on a roadmap to support special economic zones.
Regarding energy security, the President of Uzbekistan pointed to the need for a long-term forecast to assess seasonal energy surpluses and deficits, determine grid development needs, and more effectively combine hydropower, thermal generation, and renewable sources.
In response to climate challenges, Mirziyoyev advocated for the accelerated deployment of low-carbon technologies and circular manufacturing, proposing the development of a CIS Cooperation Concept in resource-efficient and circular economy.
Special attention was given to combating cybercrime. In this regard, Mirziyoyev suggested instructing the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs to urgently draft measures for establishing a joint CIS contact center for operational response to cross-border cybercrime and fraudulent schemes.
Uzbekistan will hold the CIS presidency in 2027.
