Shanghai tightens lockdown

Shanghai has tightened restrictions imposed over the spread of a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Report informs citing The Guardian.

Now, even people who are not sick with COVID-19 in areas with low incidence will not be able to move freely around the city in the near future. In addition, the city authorities have introduced daily testing of most residents for signs of new coronavirus infection.

"Our goal is to achieve zero levels of COVID-19 in the city as soon as possible," the authorities said.

On April 14, China recorded a new daily record of incidence since the start of the pandemic (29,411 cases). The largest number of infected per day was registered in Shanghai (2,573) and in the northeastern province of Jilin (325).
