Serbia will finalize the first stage of its nuclear program by mid-2027, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated, according to Report's Balkan bureau.
Speaking at a seminar dedicated to the role and responsibilities of the National Nuclear Program Implementation Body (NEPIO), she explained that the goal is to complete the first phase of the program by mid-2027 and to begin construction of the country's first nuclear facility by 2035.
The minister emphasized that Serbia is developing its nuclear program responsibly and step by step, in line with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards:
"By mid-2027, we will have all the necessary information to make a well-founded decision on the future development of the nuclear program. By 2032, we will be fully prepared institutionally, regulatorily, and professionally to select the technology and begin the construction process, so that by 2035, construction can commence."
