Schools, offices close in northern, western states of US due to snowstorm

An increased alert level has been declared in 28 US states due to an approaching snowstorm. The warning was published on February 22, Report informs referring to the US media.

Forecasters expect heavy snow and gusty winds to hit most areas in the north and west of the US and affect more than 60 million people.

Some states, including North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin, canceled classes on February 22 and closed offices. Residents are asked not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

Wind gusts can reach almost 50 km per hour, and the air temperature in some areas can drop to 30 degrees below zero. Record heavy snowfall could lead to serious road problems and disruptions to the transport system.
