Rutte proposes NATO countries allocate 0.25% of GDP to Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has proposed that member states allocate 0.25% of their GDP to Ukraine.

Report informs, via Politico, that Rutte made the proposal at a closed-door meeting of NATO ambassadors in late April.

According to the report, if the proposal is backed by allies, the alliance's annual allocation would triple to $143 billion.

The issue is expected to be discussed again at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Helsingborg, Sweden, next week.

Politico noted that the consent of all alliance members is required for the decision to be adopted.
