Russian Ambassador summoned to Moldova MFA after scandal with head of Tatarstan

Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry after an incident at the Chisinau airport, where the plane of the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov landed, who has been declared an "undesirable person" and was not allowed into the country, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Moldova said, Report informs via Sputnik-Moldova.

The ministry noted that the Russian ambassador was at the airport when Minnikhanov arrived in Chisinau and "demonstrated inappropriate behavior." However, the ministry did not specify what the "improper behavior" of the ambassador was.

Moldovan government spokesman Daniel Voda said that Vasnetsov had been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to be informed that embassy employees would be deprived of special passes to Chisinau airport, and one of them could be declared persona non grata.

Earlier today, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, at a government meeting, instructed the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs and European Integration to revoke the accreditation of two employees of the Russian embassy. Recean said that the right of Russian diplomats to move around Moldova should be limited. He stated that at least one employee of the Russian Embassy deserves deportation.
