Rishi Sunak surprises commuters by joining serving soldiers, Royal British Legion volunteers to hand out poppies

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has surprised commuters this morning by selling poppies Westminster Tube station in central London, Report informs referring to MailOnline.

He joined several army personnel and civil servant Stephen le Roux to raise money for the Royal British Legion's (RBL's) annual Poppy Appeal at.

A small crowd of people gathered around to catch a glimpse of the 42-year-old premier as he held a tray full of poppies and talking to members of the public during the brief appearance to which no media was invited.

The RBL said they were 'grateful to the PM for generously giving up his time to collect with us during the morning rush hour'.

Sunak, dressed in a coat, shirt and red tie - sporting a poppy on the left side of his chest - even posed for selfies with passersby.

The Royal British Legion's Director of the Poppy Appeal, Simon O'Leary, said commuters had been blown away by the PM's tube station surprise.

He told MailOnline: 'We are incredibly grateful to the Prime Minister for generously giving up his time to support London Poppy Day and collect with Armed Forces personnel during the morning rush hour.

'Commuters were surprised, but clearly thrilled to pick up their poppy from the Prime Minister and we can't thank him enough for his support in our attempt to raise £1 million in a day.'
