Remains of 1968 plane crash victims discovered in Indian Himalayas

In a somber discovery, an Indian Army expedition has uncovered the bodies of four individuals who perished in a tragic plane crash that occurred 56 years ago in the Himalayas of northern Himachal Pradesh, India.

Report informs via Indian media that the victims were identified through documents found on them, shedding light on a mystery that has endured for over half a century.

The ill-fated Antonov An-12 aircraft embarked on its final journey on February 7, 1968, tasked with transporting Indian Army personnel and Air Force staff from Chandigarh to Leh, a city nestled at the foot of the Ladakh mountain range in the Himalayas. Experts believe that the pilots lost control of the aircraft amid rapidly deteriorating weather conditions, causing it to crash into a spur of the towering 21,522-foot (6,560-meter) Chandrabhaga peak. There were 102 people on board the plane.

The Indian Army has stated that the search operation will continue until October 10, with hopes of finding more victims of the decades-old tragedy
