Rebels in Niger open airspace to commercial flights

The rebels who seized power in Niger have announced the opening of the national airspace for passenger and cargo air transportation, according to ActuNiger, Report informs referring to TASS.

Nigerian airspace is open to national and international commercial flights. This doesn’t apply to flights of aircraft for military and other special purposes, which require ‘permission from the competent authorities’.

The airspace of Niger was closed ‘in the face of the threat of invasion’ from the states of the Economic Community of West African States, which announced its intention to militarily restore constitutional order and return to power President Mohamed Bazoum, who was overthrown by the rebels.

The new decision was met with relief by many airlines that serve civil air traffic in sub-Saharan Africa.
