Reason for increase in plague deaths in Mongolia revealed

The bubonic plague is highly virulent in Mongolia, leading to increased mortality rates, the National Center for Zoonotic Disease (NCZD) said, Report informs.

“In the last 10 years, 21 cases of plague have been reported in the country, with nine of them resulting in death, which is a high number. Tests conducted in 2023 detected the disease in five out of 13 suspected cases, one of them was fatal,” NCZD said.

As of July 2024, there are natural foci of plague in 139 locations in 15 districts of the country.
