Rare twin tornadoes hit western Sicily

A rare pair of waterspouts struck the coast near Marsala in western Sicily, Italy, on Friday.

According to Euronews, cited by Report, the tornadoes subsequently moved inland, damaging buildings, vehicles and agricultural land.

The two swirling columns formed over the sea near the port of Marsala before reaching land and moving towards neighbouring areas of Trapani.

Several people were injured and taken to hospital.

The extreme weather left a trail of destruction along the coastal area, with emergency services working to deal with the aftermath.

Earlier, on August 24, a tornado swept through a village in southwestern France, injuring 41 people and damaging hundreds of homes.
