Putin: Russia to develop Caspian Sea research program through 2030

Russia is developing a program to study the Caspian Sea through 2030, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

According to Russian media, cited by Report, he said there are plans to create a digital twin of the sea using artificial intelligence (AI) to forecast changes in its water level.

"The Russian government is preparing a comprehensive program to study changes in the Caspian Sea's water level and minimize their negative consequences. The program runs through 2030. It envisages numerous studies, the results of which we will, of course, share with all systems," the president said.

He also said he would like to highlight Russia's proposal to create a digital twin of the Caspian Sea.

"This involves a highly accurate virtual model using artificial intelligence algorithms based on an analysis of evaporation dynamics, precipitation and river flows. The model could be used to calculate reliable scenarios for changes in the Caspian Sea's water level," he added.
