Portugal borrows to keep NATO ships afloat

Portugal's Ministry of Defense has been forced to secure a loan exceeding €2 million to pay the salaries of employees at Arsenal do Alfeite, the company responsible for maintaining the Portuguese Navy and NATO ships at the Lisbon naval base.

Defense Minister Nuno Melo revealed this information, shedding light on the dire situation facing one of NATO's strategic naval facilities. The minister said the naval base's infrastructure no longer meets the requirements of modern navies and there is the lack of skilled personnel.
