Politican who closely cooperates with Azerbaijanis elected new mayor of New York

Democrat Eric Adams gains 66.14% of the vote (676,481 votes) in the New York mayoral election based on data processing from 97.76% of scanners at polling stations, Report informs referring to the preliminary data of the election commission.

His main opponent, Republican Curtis Pliva, has already admitted defeat. He gains 28.66% of the vote (293,127 votes). The other seven candidates do not receive even 3% of the votes.

Adams will become the second consecutive Democrat mayor of New York in 20 years after the outgoing Bill de Blasio and the second black mayor in the city’s history.

He is expected to take over on January 1. He has already been congratulated by the Governor of New York State Kathy Hochul.

Earlier, Adams told the local bureau of Report that he loves Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis and that he has always supported Azerbaijanis living in New York.
