Political scientist: Use of Iranian drones in Ukraine makes Tehran party to conflict

The Islamic Republic of Iran supplies weapons to the Russian Federation, which automatically makes it an interested party in the war with Ukraine, political scientist Ilgar Valizade told Report.

The political scientist emphasized that this military cooperation is qualified by international structures as complicity in all those actions that Russia is taking in Ukraine.

According to Valizade, in connection with this, sanctions were adopted against a number of Iranian statesmen at the EU summit in Brussels.

"The parties confirmed that people involved in the program of assistance to Russia in the supply of lethal weapons should be subject to sanctions," he added.

Commenting on the military potential of Iran, the political scientist said that despite the wide arsenal of weapons, most of the weapons on the balance sheet of its army are outdated.

"First of all, these are old models of tanks and planes. The planes are American-made models of the 60-70s. They were bought by the Shah of Iran from the United States," the political scientist said.

Ballistic missiles produced by Iran are also inferior to missiles that are produced in nearby states in the region.

"In order to have high-quality weapons, one must have active ties and relationships with other world manufacturers of military equipment and products, and Iran does not have this. Iran is under sanctions, it is deprived of the opportunity to cooperate with world manufacturers in the production of military products," Valizade said.
