Protesting Polish farmers are starting a blockade of the border with Lithuania to stop the import of Ukrainian grain, said the protest coordinator, farmer Karol Pieczynski, Report informs referring to foreign media.
“The mood is to block all traffic. We won’t let anything through,” he said, noting that on March 1 farmers will block the largest border crossing with Lithuania, Budzisko. They initially plan to block it for a week.
Polish farmers want to completely block the movement of goods across the border with Lithuania to stop the “grain carousel.”
“Ukrainian grain enters the Lublin or Subcarpathian Voivodeship in transit through our country. This is allowed despite the embargo. Then the car is sent to Lithuania. Polish services stop tracking this transport after crossing the border with Lithuania. Then the car with grain returns to the border and changes documents. The cargo becomes a product of the European Union, which freely enters the country,” he said.
