Poland is planning to stop using Russian oil by the end of 2022 as part of the plan to "de-Russify" its economy as announced earlier by the country's government, Report informs citing Reuters that Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today.
"I hope that by April, at the latest by May, we will completely move away from Russian coal. We will do our best to stop using Russian oil by the end of this year," he said.
At the same time, Poland's Climate Minister Anna Moskwa said that the country can buy coal from South Africa and Australia, and it will not be more expensive.
It is worth noting that about 60% of the oil that Poland processes comes from Russia. Local company PKN Orlen has a long-term contract with Rosneft that expires at the end of 2022 and an agreement with Tatneft that expires in 2024.
“We have reviewed many contracts. We are ready for any scenario, and there are provisions in the contract that in general also give us some opportunities,” PKN Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek explained.
