PKK, its offshoots recruit over 1,200 children in Syria

The United Nations (UN) reported that the terrorist organization PKK and its Syrian wings SDF and YPG recruited more than 1,200 children in Syria in 2022, Report informs.

In the “Children in Annual Armed Conflicts” report prepared by the UN for the period January-December 2022, it was stated that the terrorist organization PKK and its Syrian extension SDF and YPG used more than 1,200 children as soldiers in 2022.

The report stated that 2,407 children faced violations in Syria, and it was stated that 1,696 children were used by the terrorist organization YPG/PKK and other armed groups as soldiers or for different purposes.

The PKK terror group's Syrian branch, the SDF, recruited and used 637 children, while 633 children were recruited by YPG/YPJ and four others by other components of the SDF.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, whose views are included in the report, said, “I am extremely concerned about the use of children as soldiers by the HPG/PKK. I urge them to stop using children as soldiers and for other purposes and to release all children in their ranks.”
