Residents of New Caledonia are fighting not against the French people as such, but against the colonial policy of this country, Pierre Qaeze, a municipal councilor of the Lifou commune in New Caledonia, said at the international conference themed "Neocolonialism: Human Rights Violations and Injustice" held in Baku, according to Report.
"We are not fighting the French. We have great respect for them. We are not satisfied with the colonial policy of this country. The current President of France, Emmanuel Macron, adheres to the corresponding course of colonialism even more than his predecessors," Qaeze said.
The councilor noted that France is trying to underestimate the achievements of the people of New Caledonia, thereby pursuing its policy of colonialism.
Qaeze emphasized that the fight is against the Macron government and that, even despite France's desire to exclude New Caledonia from the list of countries claiming independence, the fight will continue.
He also noted that the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) provides an opportunity to share the experience of injustice and pressure France imposed on different peoples.
"We must discuss the issues of colonialism, we were excluded from the list of candidates for freedom, which was facilitated by the intervention of France," he said.
