The city of Izium in Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast and the surrounding settlements, occupied in the first days of the war, were under Russian occupation for seven months, Report informs.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated Izium on September 11.
The battles for Izium, which is of strategic importance for the northeast of Ukraine, occupied the international agenda for a long time. During this period, one of the leading headquarters of Russia in Ukraine was located in Izium. Life was completely ruined in the city for almost seven months - houses were destroyed, all communications were devastated, and the people who were left in the city lived with humanitarian aid from other regions of Ukraine, even drinking water.
After the liberation, three mass graves built by the Russian Armed Forces were found here. It was determined that 400-450 Ukrainians were buried in each of these graves on the city's outskirts.
