Philippine authorities have evacuated 216 people from the surroundings of the Bulusan volcano, which erupted on June 5, Governor of Sorsogon Province Francis Escudero said in an interview with ABS-CBN media group, Report informs.
According to Escudero, most of the evacuated residents will stay in another village for several days. Escudero stressed that residents of some areas where ash fell did not require evacuation.
Most of the 216 people evacuated are children under the age of 18, the official said.
The National Council for the Prevention of Risks and Elimination of Natural Disasters of the Philippines reported in the morning about the evacuation of about 60 families, or more than 100 people, from the volcanic eruption zone. Classes have been suspended at three local schools, according to the agency. There are no fatalities or injuries from the Bulusan eruption, and people are advised to stay indoors and wear N95 face masks to avoid inhaling the fine ash.
