Pentagon again allows transgender people to serve in US Army

The US Department of Defense has approved new guidelines for the recruitment of transgender people into the military, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said at a briefing, Report informs referring to Vox.

“The secretary of defense strongly believes that the all-volunteer force thrives when it is composed of diverse Americans who can meet the high standards for military service, and an inclusive force that strengthens our national security posture,” Kirby told reporters.

The new policy also allows trans troops to receive needed transition-related medical care authorized by law and prohibits discrimination based on gender identity, Kirby and other DOD officials said.

The innovations are aimed at restoring the policy adopted by the Pentagon in 2016 regarding the transgender people.
