Pakistani airline resumes flights to Europe after EU ban lifted

Pakistan's state carrier PIA has resumed flights to Europe after the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) lifted its four-year ban.

Report informs via DW that the airline is still prohibited from flying to the UK and USA.

The EU blocked PIA flights in 2020 after one of its Airbus A-320 crashed in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, killing 97 people.

Safety concerns about the airline intensified when then-Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan stated that nearly a third of Pakistani pilots had "cheated on their exams."

Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that PIA would soon expand its flights to include other European countries.

PIA planes will fly to Paris twice a week. Tickets for the first flight were completely sold out, with more than 300 people purchasing them.
