Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned a drone attack attempt near the holy city of Makkah and expressed full support for Saudi Arabia, Report informs.
"I condemn in the strongest possible terms the dastardly and heinous attempted drone attack against the Holy Site of Makkah Al-Mukarramah," Sharif wrote on X, expressing deep sorrow and outrage over the incident.
He also praised the Saudi Armed Forces for their vigilance, courage and professionalism, particularly the speed of their response.
The Pakistani prime minister again called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint and prevent further escalation.
"Our region has already suffered far too much from conflict. Dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable path towards peace. Pakistan stands unwaveringly, shoulder to shoulder with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the defence of its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as for the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain - a duty that every Pakistani carries close to their heart," Sharif said.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia said its forces had intercepted a Houthi drone near the outskirts of Mecca. The Houthis denied intending to threaten Islamic holy sites, saying their targets are Saudi oil facilities and military bases.
