Over 130,000 refugees cross Turkey’s border with Greece

The number of migrants who crossed into the EU from Greece has exceeded 130,000, Report says, referring to Russia's RT news channel.

The increase is due to Turkey's decision to open its border to refugees.

"As of 09:15 (Turkey local time), the number of refugees who left our country through Edirne province amounted to 130,469," Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu tweeted.

On February 29, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara opened the border with the EU for Syrian refugees.

The heads of state and government of the EU member states in mid-March 2016 agreed with Turkey on a joint plan to combat the migration crisis.

It envisages, in particular, the provision of financial assistance to Ankara to receive refugees, the return to Turkey of all illegal immigrants who arrived in Greece from Turkish territory, and the EU's admission of legal Syrian migrants from Turkey on a one-for-one basis.
