NYT: Number of Russians who arrived from Mexico in US grows 46 times in 1 year

In October this year, 3,879 Russians entered the US from Mexico. Most of them crossed the border illegally, Report informs referring to an article by The New York Times (NYT).

The publication notes that from the beginning of October last year to the end of September this year, 21,000 Russians arrived across the US border with Mexico. The indicator increased by 46 times.

According to American law, anyone who arrives in the US can apply for asylum in this country. This can be done by persons who prove that they have been persecuted in their country because of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group.

Until those who arrive in the US prove this, they are placed in a migration prison. As a rule, it is possible to leave it after paying the bail. Recently, the amount of bail varies from $10,000 to $30,000. As the NYT notes, this amount is considered very large, and immigrants from Latin American countries, as a rule, have to pay a smaller bail.

According to the Russian FSB, in the third quarter of 2022 (from July to September), 9.7 million citizens left Russia, which is almost 2 times more than in the second quarter (5 million from April to June). Some 70% of all trips were made to countries such as Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Finland, which is associated with the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia.
