Newborn’s arm severed during delivery in India

Indian law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into an incident that occurred on July 30 at a hospital in the city of Mandikhera (Haryana state), where a newborn’s arm was traumatically amputated due to medical negligence.

Report informs via The Times of India that during childbirth, the newborn’s limb was completely torn off, allegedly as a result of rough handling by medical staff.

The hospital staff reportedly committed a gross violation of medical protocols. Relatives of the mother accused the doctors of inhumane treatment. The baby survived and was transferred to another clinic in a neighboring city.

A special commission has been set up to investigate the incident. The commission determined that the hospital violated established standards of care, as well as constitutional rights to health and life guaranteed in India.

The commission has requested full information about the circumstances that led to the amputation, as well as details of the doctors and paramedics who were present at the scene.

In addition, the commission has demanded a clear explanation of the reasons for the newborn’s limb being severed and details on the measures taken for the child’s treatment and rehabilitation.
