New Zealand PM describes Auckland incident as terrorist attack

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the knife attack on Auckland shoppers, in which six people suffered, as a terrorist attack, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

She added that the criminal was a follower of the Islamic State ideology.

A man has been fatally shot by police officers, and six shoppers have been injured - including three critically - in horrific scenes at a supermarket in West Auckland, New Zealand.

The three critical patients, and another in a serious condition, have been taken to hospital.

The attacker was shot dead when being detained. He was identified as a Sri Lanka native, who arrived in New Zealand in 2011, and came on the authorities' watch five years later.
