New gas turbine power plant launched in Turkmenistan

A solemn opening ceremony of a new gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 432 megawatts was held in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, on the territory of the existing state power plant, Report informs.

The project was implemented by the State Corporation Turkmenenergo together with foreign partners - Japanese companies Sumitomo Corporation and Mitsubishi Power, as well as Turkish Ronesans Holding.

Members of the Turkmen government, heads of the Lebap region administration, representatives of public organizations, the media, as well as a Japanese delegation that arrived in the country took part in the celebrations on this occasion.

The new power plant is equipped with three gas turbine units of the Japanese company Mitsubishi Power with a capacity of 144 megawatts each, which are used for the first time in the electric power industry of Turkmenistan.

With the commissioning of the new facility, the capacity of the Lebap State Power Plant will exceed 580 megawatts. This will increase the reliability of energy supply to consumers in the region, as well as increase the volume of electricity exports to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan.
