The amount of damage caused to businesses in New Caledonia during the protests could reach 1 billion euros, according to the information of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of New Caledonia, David Guillén.
"Today we are approaching 1 billion euros," he said on France Culture radio. Guillén noted that all sectors of the economy, from industry to trade, were affected, "especially car dealerships."
In New Caledonia, on May 15, a state of emergency was declared for 12 days, and the military was brought in to guard ports and airports.
