The Netherlands is applying for UN Human Rights Council (HRC) membership for 2024-2026, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said at the 52nd session of the UNHRC, Report informs via TASS.
According to him, the HRC is of great importance for the protection of human rights and is intended not only for dialogue and discussion, but also for action. "And we are proud to announce that we are nominating our candidacy for membership in the UN HRC for the period from 2024 to 2026," the minister said in his video message to the meeting participants.
Wopke Hoekstra noted that membership is not only a formality and requires a lot of effort.
"We need to talk about violations of human rights. Nothing will change if we don't stand up for what we believe in," he added.
