NATO naval exercises Northern Coasts 2023 will begin today off the coast of Latvia and Estonia, said the German Navy, under whose command the maneuvers will take place until September 23, Report informs.
The exercise involves approximately 3,200 military personnel, 30 ships and submarines, and up to 15 aircraft from 14 countries. In the coastal areas of Latvia and Estonia, training landing operations and ship strikes against ground targets will be carried out, as well as actions to ensure the security of sea routes in the Baltic.
The day before, the US Navy landing helicopter dock ship LPD-19 Mesa Verde arrived in the capital of Latvia, Riga, with a detachment of 800 American Marines.
The exercises will involve naval forces from Germany, the United States, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada and Sweden.
