Munich Security Conference kicks off

The 58th Munich Security Conference has begun its work.

Report informs that Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger welcomed the event participants.

More than 30 heads of governments and states and about 100 foreign and defense ministers participated in the conference this year.

Against the backdrop of measures to counter the spread of COVID-19, the conference organizers have significantly reduced the composition of the delegations and the number of sessions and meetings. Part of the session will be organized online.

The central topics of discussion will be the coronavirus pandemic, the situation in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and climate change.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and others are expected to speak at this year's conference,

The conference will end on February 20.
